ORIENTA: diagnostic innovation for breast cancer

We are proud to present the project 𝗒π—₯π—œπ—˜π—‘π—§π—”, of which Addax Biosciences is promoter and coordinator, funded under the Piedmont Regional Programme β€˜F.E.S.R. 2021/2027’ – Action I.1i.1.

This project, developed in collaboration with prestigious partners such as the Fondazione del Piemonte per l’Oncologia – Candiolo Cancer Institute IRCCS, SmartSeq s.r.l, and Arrow Diagnostics, represents a significant advance in diagnostic innovation for breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the leading neoplastic disease among women, with approximately 55,700 new diagnoses in 2022 (+0.5% compared to 2020). However, the high costs of next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods limit access to early diagnosis, which is crucial for improving prognosis.

The ORIENTA project aims to develop and clinically validate an innovative and affordable NGS method based on the molecular characterisation of breast cancer. An innovative protocol will be created, which is fundamental for personalised diagnosis and treatment.
Addax Biosciences will contribute to the project through the use of GAF, the non-carcinogenic fixative alternative to formalin, characterised by superior DNA and RNA preservation.

Thanks to ORIENTA, it will be possible to:

πŸŽ—οΈ Increase access to personalised breast cancer therapy.
🌍 Promote the use of non-carcinogenic fixatives in advanced diagnostics, improving workers’ health and reducing environmental impact.
πŸ₯ Strengthen the skills of Piedmont’s healthcare facilities and strengthen the advanced diagnostics and healthcare digitisation industry.
πŸ”¬ Start developing innovative diagnostic tests for other cancers as well.

ADDAX is excited to contribute to this important initiative that combines scientific innovation, sustainability and accessibility, with the aim of improving the quality of life of patients and the future of oncology diagnostics.
